Great start, you are already ahead just by acknowledging how valuable saving in gold really is and just how precious this platform for providing this service and making it accessible to all.

Welcome to @Goldmoney
Thank @nigelmarkdias for posting this. I have never read Ayn Rand. I see that I need to investigate AtlasSociety.org
I also see that Parts I, II, and III are available for rent or purchase on iTunes and I assume Amazon.
Never having read Atlas Shrugged I do not know in which time frame of the original book takes place, but interestingly (and prophetically?) the movie (Part I) opening scene is "September 2, 2016"
Note: the movie is dark, very dark.
Can anyone who has read the book and seen the movie(s) comment on the extent to which the movie(s) follow the book?
PS http://community.goldmoney.com/discussion/2245/is-money-the-root-of-all-evil includes a full reading of "The Money Speech" by Mike Maloney
It's worth the time to read it. I've read it 4 times.
It changed my life at age 17.
It's been a beacon ever since.
These three movies (or the actual book) and the Mike Maloney video above should be required viewing/reading for everyone (and certainly anyone with a Goldmoney account).
I found that the changing cast with each movie was a bit disconcerting, but it did not detract significantly from the message of the movies. Despite the attempt at modernization, anyone familiar with the tenets of Communism will realize that Atlas Shrugged was originally a condemnation of the former Soviet Union. However the three-part movie works equally well as a condemnation of the current state of the US and/or the European Union.
Atlas Shrugged is equal parts SocioPolitical Comentary, Mystery, and Science Fiction. I rented them from iTunes, but they should be available from Amazon too.
Goldmoney is like the valley in Colorado, and this community is a little like the residents of that valley. Though not entirely -- we did not all earn our money by doing something productive or constructive and nothing keeps moochers from buying gold (except they may not save their money nor do the research). But still, it is really cool to hang out in a forum with people who have standards, and "get it".
Ayn Rand wrote Atlas Shrugged in 1957 based on her experiences in Russia -- watching it turn into a communist country. She came to the USA and was alarmed to see the same erosion of standards, and entitlement attitude here and was trying to warn us. She originally wrote "The Fountainhead" in 1943 with the same goal. But apparently it was too complex for the masses to understand the underlying and "between the lines" implications of The Fountainhead. So when she wrote Atlas Shrugged, she dumbed it down, and expanded (hello 3 volumes), and spelled out every detail in the most direct way that she could.
Think about that time frame 1943 - 2016 -- the writing has been on the wall for a LONG time.
If you like Atlas Shrugged, be sure to read The Fountainhead, or if you are a smart, busy person, skip Atlas Shrugged and just read The Fountainhead because it is shorter and you will still "get it". Fountainhead is about architecture, Atlas Shrugged is about trains and commerce -- maybe you prefer to look at it that way.
Sadly I see the US and Europe in the same state as Atlas Shrugged now … or very nearly there … and we have no John Galt.
Was Chairman Greenspan the Gorgon's head that Perseus used to convert Atlas to stone? @RocketDog

Personally, I look to render unto Caesar as applicable.
L'chaim, to life
Of course render unto Caesar -- give him back the worthless fiat, render unto God -- the land and fruits thereof; your soul, which you can reclaim when you're done working for Caesar?
I like that Greenspan said this, "If men did not have some commodity of objective value which was generally acceptable as money, they would have to resort to primitive barter or be forced to live on self-sufficient farms and forgo the inestimable advantages of specialization." My plan was to buy enough gold to pay a lifetime of property tax and equipment. And to grow my own food using Aquaponics and four season farming techniques.
Obviously Greenspan knew better. So many of these politicians and business men know better. What force is it that has them all at its whim to continue to do the wrong thing?
Interesting times for sure.
